About us
Our History

Nia Community Foundation was established in 2010 initially as a 100% mission-aligned impact investment fund investing in Oakland, California, based social enterprises. All investments focused on the intersection of social justice and environmental sustainability. The fund supported a range of successful social change-makers working in a wide spectrum of industries including education, sustainable transportation, solar energy, banking, transformative finance, sustainable agriculture, job placement, progressive media & technology.
In 2013, we expanded our reach by making grants to social-justice focused non-profit organizations. Nia Community Foundation grants to mission-driven organizations to help them scale their reach with social justice, environmental sustainability, racial and gender equity programs.
We proactively research and grant to organizations that best align with Nia Community's priorities. We do not consider unsolicited proposals or letters of inquiry.
