Nia Community Foundation Announces He for She Awards to Advance Male Allyship of Women in Asset Management

Inaugural He For She Event Draws High-Profile Leaders Committed to Gender Equity

San Francisco, CA — Nia Community Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing gender equity and inclusive leadership, today announced the upcoming He for She Awards Event, a dynamic forum designed to honor male leaders who are taking meaningful action to support, elevate, and promote women in asset management.

These allies are men who serve as role models to other men and who are advocating for women in asset management roles. According to a study by the Knight Foundation, women-led firms manage less than 1% (just 0.7%) of assets in the $84 trillion asset management industry in the U.S.  This lack of representation has meaningful consequences for our investment products and for the economy.

The event will be held on Wednesday, January 28th from 5-7 pm at San Francisco’s CHIEF Clubhouse.
In addition to announcing the awardees, the He for She Event will feature allies and explore how more men can actively participate with a focus on practical strategies and actions that can be taken beyond this event.

The program will feature exciting and distinguished speakers, including:

  • Jennifer Siebel Newsom, First Partner of California

  • Rob Bonta, Attorney General of California

  • Malia Cohen, California State Controller

  • Anton Orlich, Managing Investment Director, CalPERS

  • Kat Taylor, Co-Founder, Beneficial State Bank

  • Val Red-Horse Mohl, CEO, Red-Horse Financial Group

  • Darian Rodriguez Heyman, Best Selling Author

“Advancing gender equity in asset management is a matter of accountability and long-term economic strength,” said Rob Bonta, Attorney General of California. “I believe it is all of our responsibility to actively support the leadership of female asset managers who are driving positive change.”

“When women don’t have a seat at the decision-making tables, especially those that shape markets and the flow of investment, we miss out on the perspectives and skills of half the population. In California, we are shaping the foundations of a more equitable economy, and that does not happen in isolation. We’re grateful for the continued efforts of male allies in this space who are critical to closing the women’s wealth gap and shifting what leadership looks like.” – First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom

Kristin Hull, Founder and Director of Nia Community Foundation, emphasized the importance of collective engagement: “Authentic male allyship requires listening, reflection, and sustained action. When men show up as partners and advocates, not bystanders, we create stronger, more inclusive systems where everyone has the opportunity to contribute and lead.”

The awards are brought to you by the Nia Community Foundation along with the following non-profit organizations: How Women Lead, Invest for Better, and The Real Mental Health Foundation.  These organizations are excited to be planting the seed with this inaugural event, and look forward to seeing it grow as more non-profits, allies, and others join this movement.
